that pushes the firewall and inward towards the driver, that airbag will prevent head injury, even with a seatbelt. Just look at new car crash footage, and amplify the impact. Saabs are safe, so too are most new cars, but in head-on collisions where major damage occurs, beyond the capabilities of the 'crumple zone'....airbags have saved many people....from death to seriously injured.
if you look at high speed wrecks, even with high end 'very safe' european cars, the driver's side seating area compacts considerably in an offset head on. I'll keep the airbag and take the rare risk of a broken nose.
