I myself have microwave TV so I am not fully aware of how sat TV works.
So far however, DirecTV has accepted to not service Canadian customers, i.e. they do not take registrations with addresses in Canada. However, as the satellite footprint does cover a wide area of Canada, Canadians 'import' the equipment and open an account with an address in the States (someone they know or PO Box).
Canadian media and broadcasters are coming under incresed criticism for their actions and restrictions form the government.
Here are a few examples:
-SuperBowl: Canadians cannot view the original broadcast of the SuperBowl. Result: we do not get to see the ads!!!
-Major magazines are increasingly coming out with Canadian editions. For example, it is ILLEGAL to import the original issue of TIME in Canada. Again, the advertising is all different.
-It is also illegal to subscribe to satellite radio in Canada (XM Radio, etc...)
-It is illegal for an American travelling to Canada to receive DirecTV signals in his RV.
In the end, Canada makes it illegal to receive the sessions of the American Congress on Canadian TV.
Canada is in deep...
Thanks to everyone for the answers!
