using a company out of the UK--Lingo.com. I heard about them from some friends who use their service--they had nothing but good things to say, and neither do I.
Their unlimited package is cheaper than Vonage, but you get the same features plus unlimited calls to the US and Canda.
We've been using it for a few weeks now, and haven't had any problems. Clear connections so far, even to Africa. You are able to keep your phone number, but it does take a week or two to make the switch, so we have cable phone + regular phone for now.
We went with the service for a few reasons:
1--My wife is Nigerian. $0.12 a minute on Lingo vs. Africa calling cards. It's no contest!
2--dialup internet + regular phone vs. superfast internet + unlimited long distance.
3--Lingo does internet billing, while Verizon had a charge to pay bills that way.
I believe that GM and several other large corporations have gone to VOIP for all their office calls. Good enough for them, it's good enough for me!
I also discovered that you don't need to have your computer on all the time in order to use the Lingo phone service.
Feel free to ask any other questions you have--I'll do my best to relate my experiences.
