I agree we are a subset of users. However, I am not convinced that our input would not reflect that of the average Saab buyer. Sure we may want something they don’t know they want, but that doesn’t mean they won’t say ‘cool’ at the test drive. As for the DIY comment, I think many of us wish there was a little less that needed doing.
“Saabs appeal to someone who likes a car that is a bit more unique than the look-alike Asian cars, are not so bland as domestics, have a European feel, and offer more for the money than other European marques.” Why can’t Saab market this better? This is its primary competitive advantage. Since we seem to understand this after evaluating all the alternatives during our purchasing decision, perhaps we are best suited to express this to other consumers.
On to “core values.” If GM thinks Saab can copy the Asian companies who have copied the Germans and the Americans and still gain sales without loosing its existing customer base in the process, hats off to them. Saab needs long term goals, which they don’t seem to have.
I agree that getting such an idea before the right management at GM/Saab would be a formidable task. Maybe they are reading this now. Guess the real question is does it pay to try? Is there enough interest on the BB to put something together?
