Several things to consider... Posted by Clay McNeely [Email] (#497) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Clay McNeely) on Wed, 24 Nov 2004 08:57:13 In Reply to: OT: School/Class Rings, awg, Tue, 23 Nov 2004 22:18:01 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I purchased a white gold high school class ring, wore it for about 4 months my senior year, let my girlfriend (now fiancee') wear it for about 6 months, and now I have been wearing it for 1 1/2 years since then. So, all in all, it has been worn for almost 2 1/2 years now. I have been extremely pleased with the purchase, and I'm quite certain I would have regretted it had I not gotten one.
My high school wasn't all that typical, as everyone had a tremendous amount of school pride. We were all challenged to a certain extent as far as academics were concerned, so graduating was definitely an accomplishment worthy of merit. A class ring symbolized a great number of things, for which it still represents today. My ring is very individualistic and unique, so that also adds to my satisfaction of having it.
As others have stated here, they really see no purpose in getting something you will either never wear or you will wear for a short period of time, put it aside, and care nothing about it in the future. It all depends on what the ring stands for, what you were able to accomplish throughout your academic endeavors, and how sentimental a person you are. My mother drilled sentiment into my brain since day one, so that probably has something to do with my desire to have a class ring.
When I get married this coming July, I may or may not continue wearing my class ring. I know a wedding band will hold so much more meaning, but it certainly doesn't erase the successes and memories of high school. Time will tell, I suppose.
Anyway, I imagine I've rambled on enough for now. I just wanted to give a contrary perspective to the majority posted here and say that I am extremely happy with my decision to get a class ring, and I simply wouldn't have been completely content without one. By the way, my fiancee' got a class ring and she has yet to wear it enough times to bother counting. To each his/her own. Drive safely, and KEEP ON SAABING!!!
