I didn't have a particularly fun HS experience, and was totally broke, putting myself thru college. No HS ring, and wouldn't have wanted one. Don't remember them being all that for my HS, anyway; I think 97% were college bound.
I put myself thru college nights w/tuition reimbursement and saved enough to take a year off to finish the 21 classes in 14 months w/honors. Busted my butt, and splurged on a ring because I felt like I had achieved a milestone that was important to me, had taken dedication, time, and so on.
Wore it a lot when I graduated. Got cheaper gold / lapis. The lapis really stood out from most rings, and it has often drawn attention. Had the dual majors and inscriptions on student gov; stuff I put time & energy into, and was proud of. Ring has been resized over the years, and cleaned a couple of times.
More recently, I haven't worn it much unless going out on dressy occasions, etc. But I don't regret having it. Much more recently, I got the wedding variety. Diamond and sapphire (we call it bling bling ring). It connects w/my long suffering (already) wife's diamond/sapphire.
Both my class ring and wedding band reasonably match for color, but would be a bit much for me to wear together. So I've probably moved on from wearing it!
Based on what you said, it might not be worth one for you at this point. I really thought about it before spending the money, but am glad I got it. If it doesn't mean much to you, or you wouldn't wear it, why bother? Save the bucks and put it to something that will mean something to you instead!
