The only ones I can comment on first hand are the performance tires. The SZ50 from Firestone in 205/55/16 was great. They're no longer made.
I've heard countless good things about Yokohama Avid tires being smooth and comfy but not so great in the snow.
My friend has the BFG Traction TA but I found them harsh. I would avoid the Toyo tires if you want a smooth ride though. I have those now and they're harsh regardless of what tire pressure I use.
How about Nokian WR? My Nokian Hakka 2s are smooth but they're in a 15" rim size so it's not comparing apples to oranges. The Hakka 2's are not quiet but they are an aggressive snow tire. I hear that the WR is the first all season that is REALLY all season.
