if car is parked they can tow, if driving they will tow.
if car is registered but you do not have current tags its a $10 admin fee fixit ticket, but if you are not currently registered expect ticket, tow, and proving registration and insurance in court before you can get car out/drive again. oh, also impound fees (usually must pay cash).
courts here do not care if you didn't receive notice, it's not their job (dmv) to notify you, its youre responsiblity to make sure youre current. their stance is it's a courtesy they extend to notify you it's due, but not a must do thing, so you wouldn't have a leg to stand on here as far as that goes. be happy its only $85! pay the fine and get it registered and add it to lifes lessons and experiences. mark :-)
