The trick is to take a deep breath, sit back and do a lot of soul searching for yourself. You need to write down your goal(s) and prioritize. Saving money towards buying a house isn't a bad thing but not at your current pace and that you know. 18k might not be much towards your dream house but it's a start in the right direction, perhaps it's what you need to start your own business and make many folds your current salary. You have good education but what you're missing is a "Financial" education. Don't rush into the stock market yet, you'll get burned and it's your hard earned money. I suggest you go out to your local library branch or bookstore and explore the business/financial section. Read 1,2,3,..,10 books to get started. Even then, you'll still have questions and doubt but you'd be much better suited to invest your hard earned money. Start by reading "Rich Dad's" series by Robert T. Kiyosaki, I think it's a great way to start. Then you might explore the option of hiring a financial advisor.

Note: Please don't throw your money into the stock market yet unless you have a good view of where the "pros" stand on it.
