IMO Subaru has effectively stepped on Saab's brand positioning. GM still thinks that Saab will be its answer to Volvo. Good luck!
GM will be unwilling to invest enough time or $$$ in Saab to establish a full independent line. Patching in a hodgepoge of Opels and Vauxhalls will take forever. GM needs a simple approach or else they will get wrapped around the axle...as usual.
Why not expand Subie rebadging ala 9-2, i.e. grab the turbo Forester and upgrade interior. Focus Saab resources on the 9-5 with a new larger version and then offer a rebadged econo version of the new 9-5 to Subie as its top of the line model. Launch 9-7 as planned. Rebadge Legacy as new 9-3 and add convertible. Get on with it before it's time to stick a fork in Saab.
