If it looks familiar, it is the precursor to today's Tivoli Audio products. Designed in 1974, a joint project of Tomlinson Holman (The "T" and "H" of THX), chief electrical engineer at Advent, and designer Henry Kloss, in Cambridge, Mass. It is FM only (mono, of course), with an RCA-in jack for the ipod. Rich, beguiling sound from the "acoustic suspension speaker." The knobs are like butta : ) In fact, I'm having trouble turning it off and going to bed. They come up for auction pretty regularly, for about the price of a Tivoli Model One. In fact, this for my office, because I'm tired of carrying my Tivoli PAL to work every day. It's big enough that one might think there are tubes inside (like Kloss' very pricey KLH Model Eight from 1961), but it's transistor. And really heavy! It's a sound system just weird enough for someone who drives an old Saab. I'm sorry Jonathan, I don't know much about B&O, I can't even afford their cool A8 earbuds! But what I sometimes hear is "all show and no go." But I am not one to avoid a product because it strikes an emotional chord, either : )
