My main hobby is boating...I've found that good mariners have a lot of great solutions to lots of common problems that occur on and off boats. Like mice for instance.
When I winterize my cruiser, I put a dryer sheet in every cabin, the head, every storage compartment, the anchor compartment, on top of the water tanks, the water heater, and a whole bunch of them in the engine room. I even tape them to areas with lots of wires, like the charging system, the inverters and the circuit breaker panel. I've never had a mouse.
Boats are go through 6 month layups, and every spring lots of captains start out the spring fit-out with a bad bunch of animal damage. So far, knock on wood, I've never had any problems.
Bounce Dryer Sheets. And when you take them out, the smell left behind is way better than moth balls.
