Short trips are the worst thing for engine and oil life. One byproduct of combustion is water. An engine that doesn't reach normal operating temperature for a reasonable amount of time isn't hot enough to boil off the accumulated water collected in the oil. Even worse, a cold engine requires more fuel to run which produces even more water. If you do a lot of this type of driving, change your oil every 2000 miles. Synthetics won't make any difference. And make sure your thermostat is working properly.
