Most MBA programs are well rounded as you point out. A concentration however provides several benefits. It allows you to learn more about a particular industry. This is key to establishing a network and understanding how all of the players fit. Whenever I interview someone, if they don't have a concentration in our field, I know they are just looking for a job and not a career. If someone has a true interest in the field, they are much more likely to suceed in it. Picking a concentration also forces you to sit down and really think about what you want to be doing. You are not necessarily locked into that decision for life, but it forces you to answer the question.
