Use the laptop to set-up your wireless router. One word of caution though, the router comes configured from the factory to accept set-up commands from any computer. As part of the set-up you will need to enter the MAC address of each machine which will be authorized to communicate with the router. MAKE SURE THE FIRST MAC ADDRESS YOU ENTER IS FOR THE MACHINE CONNECTED TO THE ROUTER DURING THE SET-UP PROCESS!, (i.e. your laptop).
Once the first MAC address is entered the router will only accept further set-up commands from that particular machine, in your case the one which won't load the software. As additional addresses are entered it will accept commands from any of the authorized machines.
One of my sons made this mistake (had router connected to desk-top and entered his lap-top info first), the set-up process came to a screeching halt immediately! It was easy for him to correct, he just had to connect his laptop to the router to complete the set-up, since both of his machines could load the set-up software.
Enjoy the experience of becoming your own IT Department. LOL
