You have to remember that this was a last minute job to bring people into the Pontiac showroom. It is basically a GM of Australia Holden Monaro coupe with the Pontiac split grille grafted onto the front. Take a look at this Australian Chipmaster site for a description of their performance upgrades for the Monaro:

You will notice that this is the same car that becomes the GTO in the states. Yes, the styling is somewhat bland but the performance is awesome, it does have independent rear suspension, and the interior is fantastic (seats are said to be better than the new Corvette seats). I walk past one of these in my office parking lot on the way to my '03 9-3 SS Arc. The GTO did not sell well at all in '04 and there are some ridiculous deals available. A friend of mine found a GM Smartbuy deal for $0 down, $189 per month for 23 months, and 24th payment of $21101 or just return the car (12000 miles per year). This is on a car with a MSRP of $33495! And I thought Saab had some great deals at year end... ;^)
