this subject a few years back. It combined my Economics and CS areas of study.
Basically the final answer is that it is just too difficult of a question to answer. Since everyone uses a different "tool" and thus different definitions of what is a "hit," it is nearly impossible to judge sites based on volume. There is a hit, a page view, a request, a unique user, etc., etc. which leaves too many question marks about who's using what. I ended up trying to find a sufficient sample size (30) by seeking out College and University sites which used WebTrends (I think) as their tool for tracking "hits." This made my "easy" project much more difficult than I intended, but I guess I learned a bit, which was probably the intention - :o) I understand all of the definitions, the reasons for using each, main concern about bandwidth and support, etc., so I am not discounting anything here.
Regardless, we know this is the best darn site period (so support it!!) for our Saab fix (and other topics). And as previously mentioned, one billion of anything is remarkable!!! Especially when considering the quality of content! Heck, even Gates would get excited about a billion. Thanks Scott and SaabNet... Keep up the excellent work!!!!
Sean
