but I agree with both. And as mentioned the term is not defined the same by all.
Again, 1 BIL is a HUGE number, so kudos to Scott and SaabNet. My department's Intranet site is visited on average 15,000 hits per month in 2004. Our "audience" is approximately 5,000 users (bank-folk who aren't necessarily using its full functionality or computer literate enough to get to it). This site is the third most visited Intranet site next to HR and Circulars, not including the home page (which throws a wrench into all calculations - a "hit" everytime someone opens the browser can quickly skew numbers). Since our launch date of 2/20/03 we have seen 231,296 through the end of Sept 2004 (last published numbers). To get to 1 BIL we would have to maintain (assuming) 15K per year and by this time, year 2071 we would make 1 BIL. Of course, the numbers are only including "hits" or requests to the main page (more of a unique user - if a "direct" link is sent that does not go through the home page, than no "tick"), so we might get there a few years sooner, but you get the idea.
Hats off again to Scott and SaabNet... truly an asset.
Sean
