Any car dealer has a few bucks tied up in real estate and inventory, plus parts. There are certain fixed expenses, such as TAXES, salaries, TAXES, benefits, TAXES, electicity, TAXES, phone, TAXES, water, TAXES, sewer, TAXES, local license fees, TAXES, state license fees, TAXES, and did I mention TAXES?
So, in order to stay in business, it is necessary to make enough money to pay all these TAXES and other expenses, commissions to the sales personnel, plus have enough to feed the family after TAXES.
So, you really can't expect the dealer to give you in trade as much as he can retail the car for, considering that, if he intends to resell it, he probably has to have someone check it out, fix any safety related items, and offer some sort of warranty on it for at least 30 days, if not longer.
Funny, nobody seems to complain about the pawnbroker who doesn't offer much, or the perfume parlor which charges list price, or the department store which sells at suggested retail.
Guys, even Mike Lynch has to eat!!! (and pay for gas for his Saab)
