Like many other "collectables", vintage guitars are now a very hot item. Easy to see why: limited, serial-numbered production, decreasing supply, comparable values, portable, star-association, etc. Even within the last year, prices have escallated tremendously, particularly for the best, non-altered examples. Many of the guitars that we players love are unfortunately now being collected by non-players who recognize a good investment when they see it, which further escalates the price, etc.
I have rarely seen a 30+ year-old Gibson dreadnought acoustic without problems, particularly around the front-neck interface. If you had one, it must have been nice, well cared for.
Glad that you kept the better electric!!! When I bought my SG (a long, long time ago), I'm fairly certain that the money I paid the seller went "up in smoke".
