planar speakers, like the Maggie, Martin Logan, Apogee, Quad, ... have bigger surface areas, chances are high that someone will bump into them more often. The outer frame/grille of these things have to be sound transparent, which translates to easily damaged or dented.

Oddly enough, most older kids don't play with these things but occasional projectiles, such as toys, balls, dolls, beanie babies, can be problematic. So think about these things before you switch over. In case someone pokes a hole through and damages the ribbon or membrane, you may have to send the whole thing back, and that's a big hassle given the size of these things.

Panel speakers have excellent high and midrange sound, but they are not too good on the lower bass, unless you can blend a woofer or subwoofer with them (as in various Martin Logan models). It is harder to blend a stand alone sub with these speakers as the bass from these speakers sound different from the bass of a conventional cone speaker.

As sound is radiated from both front and rear of these things, you need more room around these speakers, e.g. a few feet from the rear wall. They can also harder to place for them to sound good.

They are also harder to drive as their impedances vary quite a bit over the frequency range. You need power amps that can handle difficult loads. I don't know what you are using now so that is also something to think about.

My feeling is that keep your Revel. However, you may try some slightly smaller planar speakers, such as a used pair of Apogee Mini Grand if someone is selling a pair in your area.

I love Maggies, but along with tube power amps, they are better suited for people with no pets, spunky kids, ..... After all, we have our Saabs to worry about first 8-).
