Warcraft 1 & 2 are a little dated now, but in their time they set the standard for real time strategy. Warcraft 3 really is a good game too, but it's a little more of a RPG/RTS combination than something like Age of Empires because the Hero character gain levels and equipment. Others might disagree, but I really liked the single player experience for the combination of story, puzzle missions and all out slugfests. Pretty much anything Blizzard (the company behind Warcraft and Diablo) touches is gold though, it's one of the few iron clad rules of PC gaming.
