We have two electrostatic ones that are Smokemaster P600xl's (same thing as Honeywell's version). Have had them for almost 5 years now, and we rarely have to dust the house at all...like 4 times a year actually.
I like them better than a HEPA because there's no costly filters to change. You just take out the electrostatic cell and put in the dishwasher, dry off and you're good to go for another few months. There is a sponge 'pre-filter' that you vacuum off and then a charcoal post-filter you can replace once a year for like $12. You wouldn't believe the amount of stuff that it picks up...absolutely amazing. Most people are surprised that we have a dog because you can't smell him whatsoever, also I'm a smoker that's quit, started, quit, started...etc. Main reason I got them.
When we sold our house in Colorado, we went to sponge clean all the walls to brighten them up for sale, but there was literally nothing on them from the smoke. Also, curtains stayed clean, linens...etc.
Another great benefit is that neither my wife or I have gotten sick, a cold, flu or anything since we've had them.
Little more costly than a HEPA off the bat, but you don't have to spend $60 once or twice a year on replacement filters. I got them from the below link:
