I went and tested a few different projectors last night. Got a chance to see the BenQ PE8700 (DLP) that I first mentioned and was absolutely blown away. By far the best quality of the ones I looked at...sharp, crisp and very vibrant. Downfall is...my room is too small for it. Where it would need to be mounted, the screen would be about 10" too big for our projection area. I'm a sucker for a good deal and for $2700 it was an absolute steal...but I'm not going to force something that won't fit correctly. I should mention, that the other DLP's I looked at weren't as nice, and in fact the LCD's were better.
So I checked out the Sony VPL-HS51 and the Panasonic PT-AE700U LCD's and those seem to be the hangup right now. I liked them both, but have read a couple negative things about each...so not sure what to do at this point. I guess any product has its ups and downs, so I just have to weigh out what's most important.
Thanks to you all for your input, I learned a buttload of stuff yesterday on projectorcentral.com and with some other resources. I can't wait for this to be done though...don't know if I'm more excited for movies, or Xbox at 1080i :)
