We mix our own paint...... Posted by DougM [Email] (#211) [Profile/Gallery] (more from DougM) on Tue, 8 Mar 2005 15:15:35 In Reply to: how do body shops get exact paint matches?, mattysdad, Tue, 8 Mar 2005 11:02:29 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
The codes give formulas, but that mix is usually just a starting point. A tweak here, and a tweak there > sometimes the painter spends half an hour tweaking to get the color to his liking. He'll mask off an area on the vehicle, or on a panel that has been removed for replacement, and after every tweak, he'll spray off on the panel and look for a match under a bright fluorescent light.
Most of the work our shop does is collision, so painting a panel here or a panel there, is all each car gets. Like Jim has stated, if we do a repair to the front portion of a fender, we'll just blend into the middle of the fender, then clear the whole panel. Perfect match every time> and the guy who paints at our shop usually cares about a perfect color match before anything else. I think he gets a high off it> along with the high he gets from the fumes.
