While I'm sure there is some benefit, I think the whole issue about syn oils is overblown. I own 3 900t's, with the oldest one an 85 with 270k miles. When I had the facilities, I changed my own oil, mostly using major brands e.g. Mobil (dino) Mobil 1, Amsoil, and whatever was on sale at Walmart, such as Texaco, Castrol, Valvoline, etc, etc. I have never had the engine worked on other than a head gasket and a timing chain. I do lots of stop and go, many trips less than 10 mins long. Very taxi like. The oil changes were done religiously at 3k. I did not see any significant variation in gas mileage that would warrant paying the extra $$$ for syn. I do not burn any oil at all! My indie mechanic puts allfleet(diesel) oil in my cars now. My goal for the 85t is 300k, the main concern is rust, not engine failure for me! That being said, I just jinxed myself! Also the syn oil advocates will have me on their hate mail list. Wink, wink.
For me, it was being diligent with the oil changes. Nuff said.
