Why do we love these cars?

Why do we love these cars? With some of the postings that are spewing spit laden expletives about service and quality issues, it raises the question. So why do we put up with all this? What is it that captures us in this brand loyalty? Is it a sort of elitist snob appeal? Is it that we love a the excitement and the handling of this car? I sure know I really like my SAAB. I think back on other cars that I have owned and the ones that stick in my memory and bring a smile to my face, the ones I really liked. My 1960 MGA deluxe. Moss Motors was the only place I could get parts for the Dunlop disc brakes. What a pain! The 1961 Volvo 544 with the sauna bath defrosters. The DKW 2 stroke station wagon with 4 on the column. It went through clutch cables faster that any SAAB. My Simca 1204 that was absolutely the most comfortable of small cars until it would quit
in traffic and then sit there dead until for some reason, still a mystery, it would decide to start. Tow bills finally equaled the base price of the car. The Renault Dauphine that I finally left on a side street in Seattle and walked away never looking back. The Alfa Spyder that loaded up and
left such a smoke screen accelerating from a stop light that I finally parted with $1200.00 for a head job out of pure embarrassment.
So why do we love these cars that give us so much angst?
