I have not so optimistic news for you....
My ear started ringing last Christmas Day, for no good reason. It has not stopped since. I have of course seen my doctor, a neurologist, and a Ear/Nose/Throat guy. They call it Tinitus, a ringing in the ear. Most people get this condition as a result of working in a noisy environment for many years. Over time, the hair cells in your inner ear are beat down, and cannot vibrate and sense sound. The ringing is because, as described to me, the hair cells are short-circuiting and sending a screwy signal to the brain. Last time I was tested, I had 60% hearing loss at the very highest frequencies, which means for example I can no longer hear my watch beep in my left ear.
But in my case, I am not exposed to inordinate noise on the job. I was not sick at the time. I was not taking any medications. Just stretching and POP my ear goes and I suddenly have ringing. I have no idea why, it really sucks.
I think I got some kind of crazy virus that f-ed my ear up. I also went to the ER back in September for atrial fibrillation. I am 26 for crying out loud. I run 70 miles a week. This stuff is not supposed to happen to otherwise healthy people. This is why I kind of think I have had some kind of undiagnosed virus, something the doctors don't normally test for.
Good luck on your prognosis. Email me if you get any good solution to the ringing, I'd like to hear it. Sorry for the venting.
Tito
