I think if you have a valve to close-off the tank from the rest of the system, it'll chatter on/off/on/off more severely than what you get now. Not good to run the system like that, I bet Mike's suggesting that as a test not as a fix.
My first house had a non-bladder tank, I had to pump air into the tank once in awhile as the air dissolved into the water. That's one thing, but if yours has a torn/damaged bladder, it gets in the way as water goes in & out from the tank.
The poor pressure might even be unrelated to the damaged bladder in the tank? Did the pressure suddenly get worse or are you just unused to the lower pressure of a well?
