of the better paid ones. Download their trial version and do a scan and see how bad your computer is infected. If you feel the software is worth the money, then buy it. Sunbelt has a online scan but DON'T use it, as I think it flags more things that necessary.
Lavasoft is good but it's after the fact protection.
As NickR suggested, you can try Microsoft's beta, it's not bad.
I would suggest use the trial version of Sunbelt, then install Microsoft's beta and then use Lavasoft and Spybot to complement.
You also want to do a thorough virus scan with good product.
Use Hijack This if you are an experience user, just make sure there is no funny looking processes running in the background.
ZoneAlarm (the free version) is very good. It could become a pain in the beginning if you have lots of applications accessing the net. Look at the list of program accessing the web after you set it up and make sure there is no funny looking program calling home on occasion.
If you are on DSL with wireless router, make sure you narrow the IP range and not leave your access point wide open. A firewall (ZoneAlarm) for each PC would be a good thing to have as well.
