As far as ginko goes, be careful with it because it does have an effect on the speed at which blood clots. So, if you're going to have surgery of any kind, mention it to your doctor so he can tell you how long to stop taking it before you can go in for the procedure.
One non-herbal supplement I do take is Alpha Lipoic Acid. There have been a few recent clinical studies that indicate that as we get older, the amount of ALA in our bodies decreases. Ditto for creatine. So, I've been taking those as supplements for the last 6 months. Whether the improvement in my health and strength is placebic (how's *that* for a new word) or whether it's the result of the supplement or the new job, I can't say for sure. It's worth it to me for the few bucks a week.
