The last time I dealt with my friendly neighborhood dealer, I told him EXACTLY how much I wanted to pay, and I assured him that all he had to do was round up all the necessary rebates and incentives and so forth, I would write the check. I said I wanted to buy a GTO for $23k plus tax. As you may have heard, the General has a lot of unsold GTOs, and at the time there were MASSIVE incentives available. The deal was definitely doable, and the car would have come from that dealer's excessive inventory. I spent about 20 minutes with the guy, in the showroom, and left him my number. He was supposed to call me back the next day. I figure it would have taken some calling around for him to line up the rebates (including a GM Card promotion). He never called back, not even to say "How about 24?" I guess he still has my number. It seems to me that a guy standing in the showroom, check in hand, who just drove up in a year-old Aero, is a better qualified prospect than a guy who just got some junk mail, but WDIK?
