Does this ever truly pay to buy? I have a family member that has to decide whether to cancel a policy (with GE) in the next few days. I think it does not make sense, since you may never use it and if you saved the same amount, with growth you may have enough to cover your care costs either way, depending on when and for how long you need the care.

The policy in question is not enough at today’s daily costs (170/day), but increases annually to attempt to keep pace with rising costs. The policy is for a 62 year old person. This person has another plan (CNA, group plan), but with a fixed daily amount (220/day) and the periodic (every few years) option to buy up for additional premium.

Any particular advice?
