of departure for the obviously suppressed, unfulfilled, poor victim of male oppression (yes, I am being sarcastic), to wit:
I talked to my editor, came close to quitting my job, and then decided I wouldn't be happy expressing myself with construction paper. I also decided I'd wasted so many of my precious work hours obsessing about my issues I better turn the experience into something productive.
The author thinks that juxtaposing her editor, the thought of quitting her job, and then construction paper is going to elict a postive, sympathetic response from her readers. Who do you think she has really shit on in this excerpt? The comment about the need to express herself, and of course have to lower herself to the "construction paper" level (i.e. concentrate more on the children than her creative needs.) Sounds to me like she has relegated her children to not being "enough fun"; in essence, if she can't spend time doing what she wants to do, then things just suck. This is a poor excuse for an attitude towards parenting.
