a couple of days before, try to drink a lot of OJ to load up on Vitamin C (helps with tissue regeneration)
do EXACTLY as the doctor says, don't cut corners (ie: eating solid foods too early -- it could take the scab out) or else you'll end up with dry socket .. and that is very painful (from what I hear -- I didn't get it)
I wanted to be "out" so I took the general anesthetic over a local anesthetic (like when they do cavities) , and this how I remember it:
They tie a rubber band around your arm to get your veins pumped up (like you're a heroin junkie) stick a butterfly needle into a vein on the back of your hand, start the drip and undo the rubber band .. they tell you to count backwards from 10 and by the time you hit 0 you'll be asleep. Wellll .. by the time I got to 4, I was so freakin' high (it's the euphoria feeling like you've NEVER experienced) and then I was asleep. I then awoke in the recovery room which turned out to be an hour or so later, yet it felt like 10min later (the whole time was just like sleeping at night). I awoke all groggy, got a prescription for Tylenol 3's (you may get Oxycontin) and was gone. If you are getting a general anesthetic done (and probably a sedative) they make someone bring you, and take you home since you can't drive (from the drugs to put you under).
I was taking Tylenol 3's every 4hrs (per doctor's orders) for a week, and back to eating solid foods shortly afterwards. Everything was fine for me
