or course. A some ovals a bike might come close. But not on a course like Monaco. I think that (and Le Mans) are really the last of the "real road" courses still in use.. There are a couple street courses here in the US but it's just not the same, IMO.
In a lot of ways it's too bad that the old styles of racing are gone. Imagine a new Mille Miglia today in modern cars--1000 miles of Italian road from Brescia to Rome and back to Brescia, last run in 1957. And the record from 1955 (Stirling Moss in a Mercedes 300SLR) was never broken.
Or the Targa Florio in Sicily, multiple laps of the island on regular roads.
Of course drivers and spectators were killed a lot more often on those courses, but it must have been amazing racing to see. Or do!
