Reinstall OS on (unintentionally) dual booted computer Posted by IanC [Email] (#139) [Profile/Gallery] (more from IanC) on Sun, 29 May 2005 06:25:43 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
One of my tasks for my girlfriend is to reinstall Windows 2000 Professional after the OS becamse corrupted during a Microsoft service pack install. In figuring out what happened, it turns out her computer is a dual boot with Windows 98 as well. So I'm not sure how to proceed. My concern is that just booting up with the OS CD will want to install a third OS.
This was an excess computer purchased from hew dad's old company so I don't know how, when, or why it became a dual boot machine. I think that may be why the update from Microsoft went wrong but not sure.
Do I boot up the existing Windows 2000 and do a repair installation? Wipe the hard drive (however that happens, I think reformat is an option when reinstalling)?
Thanks in advance,
Ian
