LaTeX is the way to go if this is to be a recurring task. You might find it helpful in other ways as well. LaTeX is outstanding for any large, complex document in which text plays a major role (books, theses etc) when used with accompanying free tools such as bibtex and JabRef.
I use LaTeX on unix-type systems, but have grad students who use it on Macs -- and seem to like it.
If this is not a recurring task, you might try the equation editor for openoffice (openoffice.org). It's not bad, it's free, and the general environment is quite comfortable to Windows and Mac users. It comes with several math symbol fonts.
