Mike is right...check out the stadium. Coors Field is absolutely beautiful. We'd go there every week...pick up a $4 rockpile ticket (bleachers) and just hang out in the sun and watch them lose :)
Either way, a gorgeous ball park.
As far as Denver...after living there 5 years I never really found much to do there. Lot's of places to go drinking if that's your thing, but that just gets old. You could go check out the 16th street mall if you wanna shop. If you wanna shop some funky places, go back and forth on Colfax Ave...you'll be sure to see some interesting sights there.
Personally, I'd travel 1.5 hours south to Colorado Springs and check out Garden of The Gods, Pike's Peak (cool cogwheel train tour to the top), and do some shopping in Manitou Springs. Either that or head west a bit of Denver and check out the drag racing park at the base of the foothills, go to Red Rocks Amphitheater (some great hiking around there) or also catch a show if you can...best venue you will see a concert at.
If you feel like taking a road trip, go south to The Great Sand Dunes, or even the Royal Gorge Bridge. You can go north of Denver a bit and check out Estes Park, another nice area.
I could list off things to do all day outside of Denver...but not much within. Good luck and have fun!
