Many comments made below are valid and reasonable. My concern, especially here in New Orleans, is that the local meter maids can be vicious beyond belief. I've seen meter maids stand at a meter waiting for the time to expire . What happens when you park, walk at least a half block if not more to pay for parking, and return to your vehicle to find a freshly issued parking ticket because you did not get back to your vehicle before the meter maid passed. God forbid you bump into a friend/acquaintance/business associate that you want to say hello to! "Sorry to be rude, Charlie, but I have to put this pay stub on my dash before the meter maid writes me up!"
Our Mayor, C. Ray Nagin, has lots of good ideas, but still has to work with Civil Service bureaucrats that are next to impossible to fire. The level of incompetence and/or intractibility in this City's public sector is mind boggling. And I should know, I serve on the City's Municipal Yacht Harbor Board of Directors and have to interface with City Hall regularly.
End of rant
