Polls have become a propoganda tool for the major media outlets. They usually use a big enough samples, but they way the word the questions guarantee outcomes that they desire.
An example might be something like this: Do you think that Gov so and so is doing enough to make the awful "place a situaltion here" better. They word it negatively to make the person be in a negative state when answering.
Or they will make sure the samples are taken from a group of people who will answer the way they want. For instance, you want to know something about who will win an election and you are for party x. You will ask questions from likely voters mainly from party x and not ask as many people from party y.
In this manner pollsters can make the polls come out to make their favorite issue sound better or worse than it really is. When you see poll numbers, always look at the questions or how they gathered the sample (if you can) to determine just how accurate it might be.
