thanks for the replies so far. i should elaborate a little more.
the company is hiring 10-12 new folks and i was in a group of about 12-15 applicants that interviewed 1.5 weeks ago. i do not know how the other folks did, only that i did get a call back and an offer.
my only beef is really that they came in below the range i asked for. but, after a little moreresearch, it appears their offer is actually slightly higher than the average salary for that position in boston.
i therefore don't think i really have much room to argue since i am not an all-star (making a transition) in this field and they have already offered a little more than the average. plus, i really don't want to sour the relationship with a new employer.
the upside, i did get an offer (and it is a raise from current salary), the feedback is they really liked me, and this will be a great resume builder. so i can't argue.
i may actually be walking around in downtown boston to work in a few weeks... only drawback is less time in the car (used to be 28 miles each way on the highway), now i'll be falling in line with everyone else on the train....
