If I found a home in the Outer Banks of NC even 2 blocks from the beach for $130K, I would jump in a second. MOst of the new construction is McMansion or Hummer home style with 8 bedrooms and 7 baths.
I would research that to death and visit and prospect in person. Beach is a very loose term when used by a real estate sales person. Sand by a pool of water is NOT a beach. Is it ocean front, sound front, lake front, etc.? -- you need to know. Keep in mind the occasional hurricane. Also some homes are in locations that they cannot be improved or enlarged since they are grandfathered properties in areas with new restrictions, either zoning or environmental.
I love the Outer Banks and we considerng retiring there, but the traffic hell of Memorial Day to Labor Day would not be tolerable.
