There are food/fuel stops on the Thruway every 25-35 miles. Painless drive and some nice scenery in places, especially east of Utica. Flow of traffic is about 75-80 and the cops seem to let it go.
When you get to Albany head up I-87 to Troy and then get off there to head east to VT. I don't usually go that way, but I think it's Rte 7 in VT, but there are other choices.
Have fun at SOC. I live 2 hrs east in NH, but we are headed to Maine for vacay, so can't do both!
