You can scale (resample) the image 10% bigger at a time in a program like photoshop, and your huge print won't get pixely. (You can't make up for missing detail though).
3.2 MP isn't all alike. One 3.2MP sensor will make beatiful high detail images, and another will be speckled and grainy, especially as light changes - All sensors seem to handle low light or shadows differently.
Camera optics play a big role when making big prints too. You can't tell a $500 lens from a $50 lens with the images on a small webpage or a 4x6 print, but you can tell when you enlarge the photo to poster size to show detail.
An old and technically inferior Nikon D1h will make a better 2 megapixel image than a typical 5 megapixel low end point and shoot or the finest cameraphone money can buy, mostly due to optics and a money-is-no-object image sensor.
Another important factor is the distance the final big print will be viewed from. If you intend for it to be viewed close up, it may not look perfect. Six feet back, such as if it's decorating your wall, and you won't even notice. Check out the size of the grain of a wall sized poster decorating a retail store or the size of a truck trailer or a billboard.
