First, stop dumping stuff on it, as that's just drive it deeper into the soil where it will linger much longer and continue to spread. I'd dig up the affected soil (with the greatest gas concentrations), move it to a far corner of your property and spread it out on some plastic sheeting, hopefully where it gets a lot of sunlight. The gas will dissipate from the soil over time, probably pretty quickly.
Toss some nitrogen fertilizer into the hole in your driveway (to enhance biodegradation) then backfill with clean soil. If there's still some odor, you can temporarily cover the site with plastic, but I'll bet the odor will mostly be gone.
This is basically what they do at gas stations that have leaking tanks but when the contamination hasn't spread too far.
