September 11, Iraq War, our involvement in Middle East turmoil. Growth of China and quickly rising gas prices. And a single hurricane having the power to cause drastic increases in gas prices. If gas hit $6 a gallon across the country, our economy will collapse. Imagine what would happen if right now a terrorist bombed a refinery in our country right now, or even the Alaskan pipeline. Airports would be forced to shut down. The prices of virtually every product including food and basic necessities will go up. It would choke our economy to death. My question is- why the hell isn't our country declaring a war on miles per gallon? How are industries that REQUIRE heavy equipment and trucks, like contractors, going to afford gasoline if all these soccer moms are wasting gas and driving up prices by owning 15mpg highway 6000 lb SUVs? I just don't see any care for taking responsibility on a societal level. I guess its just every man for himself in this country.
