Putting down carpet - need advice

I have a room that's 24 by 14 and I wanted to put in some fresh carpet over the weekend. I was gonna get it professionaly done, however, I think I can do it cheaper myself.
The basement does get wet occasionally (maybe once a year on average), so I wanted to avoid to much glue because I know it can seep through if there is water and make the carpet tacky.
I saw at Home Depot carpet squares that are glueless, they just have a tacky bottom, and you can just place them after ripping out the old carpet. Anyone used these? They are probabaly ideal, because if a panel gets damaged, you can always just put down a new panel instead of replacing the entire carpet. It seems expensive though - about $95 / 35 sq ft. This job is gonna be about $900 - $1000 then, which seems liek a lot. I thought we could get carpet for +/- $500
Thanks!
