I agree. I was struggling with the following statement from the site, "No rejected design is ever presented to another car manufacturer. Such an action would be considered theft and fraud and the idea of Giugiaro or any other designer engaging in such unethical and illegal actions is totally absurd." It finally hit me why this reasoning bothered me: the Alfa 164 and the Peugeot 405. Both designed by Pinninfarina and both VERY similar in appearance. I recall reading somewhere that Alfa was not happy when the 405 was released for obvious reasons.
A manufacture may own the design (rejected or not) but with a few minor changes it's pretty obvious a designer will continue to 'market' the design until they find a manufacture willing to put it into production. "Don't like my suggestion for the new Scirocco? Fine, I'll tweak it a bit and sell it to Isuzu."
