I've been adding great lenses and accessories to an old but perfect Canon AE1 Program using eBay for the last year or so. I send the film off to be developed, get the negatives back, and then scan the negatives using a Nikon LS-2000 film scanner (also picked up on eBay). I took the camera to Africa earlier this year and took awesome shots with a used zoom. I think if I had a new lens of that nature with a digital SLR I would have been terrified of dropping it, or having it stolen.
It is a longer process, but that adds to the fun and anticipation for me. I'm also scanning hundreds of slides my father took in the 70s and 80s and putting them on DVD using the Nikon.
